Shrewsbury wins 2012 Coach Friendly Award

The Confederation of Passenger Transport UK (CPT) has announced that Shrewsbury has been awarded with their prestigious ‘Coach Friendly Town Award’.

Phil Bateman MBE Regional Manager West Midlands said “Our coach friendly award scheme was launched by the CPT in 2003. The Award was designed to recognise and highlight the work that towns, attractions and local authorities undertake to improve coach access and driver facilities, and at the same time encourage coach tourism within their ‘sphere of interest’.”

The Award reflects the hard work that Destination Shrewsbury, Shrewsbury Tourism Association and Shropshire Council have put into provision for coaches in the town. Work does not stop with the achievement of the award, however, and Shrewsbury will continue to work with the CPT to improve the coach offer and facilities, including resolving an additional coach set down point in the town centre as a priority.

The Award will be presented to Shrewsbury and their organisation at the West Midlands Region of the CPT’s Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony, to be held at The Drayton Manor Hotel, Tamworth, on February 8th 2013.
